QV1’s Head of Operations Joe D’Alessandro and Facilities Manager – Soft Services, Simone Chiellini talk to The Placemakers Host Amanda Steele about QV1’s ESG journey and explore how QV1 has continued to adapt, innovate and improve to reduce its carbon footprint by approximately 50% over the past decade.
The iconic QV1 has received an injection of “clean-tech” as we have launched our new electric car share service as part of our premium range of tenant services.
Tackling the call for more assertive corporate ESG goals head on, we have partnered with global electric vehicle manufacturer Mini Australia and local startups MoJo Car Share and Gemtek to offer an electric share car for more convenient trips in and around the city. The market first is underpinned by QV1’s strong commitment to sustainability whilst delivering premium building services to all tenants of the tower. The Mini Electric share car is available free to all QV1 tenants and can be booked exclusively via the QV1 App.

QV1 was designed with sustainability and energy efficiency in mind and was one of the most energy-efficient buildings in Australia at the time of its construction in 1991. Since then, QV1’s building owners have continued to build on this legacy, utilising industry leading practices to maximise sustainability.
The unique Seidler horizontal and vertical sun shades, combined with tinted double glazed windows and building services maintained to the highest standard, ensure energy efficiency without compromise to occupant comfort.
WELL HEALTH-SAFETY RATING BY IWBI
QV1 is proud to announce that our building has earned a #WELLHealthSafety Rating, an evidence-based, third-party verified rating that signifies the measures we’ve taken to support the health and safety of our tenants and visitors. Health and safety has, and always will be a key focus for QV1 and we know this verification will instill confidence in those working in, or visiting the QV1 building each day.
The WELL Health-Safety Rating is an evidence-based, third-party verified rating for all new and existing buildings, focusing on operational policies, maintenance protocols, stakeholder engagement and emergency plans to address a post-COVID-19 environment now and into the future. Designed to empower owners to take the necessary steps to prioritise the health and safety of their staff, visitors and stakeholders, the WELL Health-Safety Rating helps to instil confidence in those who come through the buildings as well as the broader community.
GOLD WELL CORE RATING BY IWBI
QV1 has been awarded WELL Certification at the Gold Level from the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI) – cementing its position as industry-leading in the area of sustainability.
The IWBI WELL Building Standard is a performance-based system for measuring, certifying, and monitoring features of the built environment that impact human health.
QV1 achieved Gold certification through its robust sustainability framework that focuses on enhancing people’s health and wellbeing in key areas – such as air, water, nourishment, light, fitness, comfort and mind.
A number of innovative features contributed to QV1 being awarded the Gold level rating, including extensive on-site amenities such as premium end-of-trip facilities and a Q fitness centre to support the integration of physical activity into daily routines. The strong focus on wellness through the programme of activities and events are in support of work-life balance and building a healthy and vibrant QV1 community environment.
CLIMATE ACTIVE NEUTRAL CERTIFICATION
QV1 has achieved carbon neutral certification by Climate Active – a Federal Government-backed program recognising organisations and businesses that have reduced their carbon footprint to zero.
QV1’s certification marks just the fourth building in Western Australia to achieve Climate Active accreditation – and the only premium grade office tower in the CBD to gain the status.
QV1’s carbon neutral status is achieved via the implementation of robust energy efficient processes across the 65,000sqm QV1 precinct – such as energy efficient lighting, major plant upgrades and ongoing fine tuning of building management control systems – as well as investment in offset projects that reduce or remove emissions from the atmosphere.
QV1 is proud to invest in projects that not only offset its carbon emissions, but have additional social and biodiversity benefits. This includes investments in the Yarra Yarra Biodiversity Corridor, which aims to reconnect and restore native habitat, as well as protect significant cultural heritage sites.
